Screen Nature Ultimetal Scales New Heights in the Barangaroo Project

Screen Nature Ultimetal (SNU), the newest fabric for Roller Blinds from Hunter Douglas Commercial, not only exceeds industry standards but has also received a distinction as one of the products to be featured in Sydney’s largest redevelopment project, Barangaroo.

SNU combines a high level of solar reflection with excellent glare control. This means the fabric provides good interior thermal protection, while at the same time fully optimising natural light and retaining excellent transparency. No other fabric in the market has been found to feature these same properties. The benefits and features offered by Screen Nature Ultimetal are unparalleled, and it has already created excitement in other countries.

Customised Roller Blind solution featuring SNU

Hunter Douglas Commercial was required to develop a fully customised solution, to ensure the blinds were incorporated into the window frame of the building’s structure. This meant special end caps, fabrics in the Barangaroo grey colour, and customised bottom bars were developed to incorporate the blinds seamlessly into the building.

The Barangaroo South Tower Two project involves the manufacture and installation of over 4,000 linked roller blinds throughout the 41 levels of tower. Installation commenced in September 2014, with construction and full installation expected to be completed at the end of 2015. An additional 2,000 linked roller blinds will be installed in Barangaroo South Tower One, with further details and installation updates to be provided throughout the course of the project.

Hunter Douglas Commercial Becomes Part of Iconic New Sydney Structure – No. 8 Chifley Square

Number 8 Chifley Square is an iconic new landmark in the heart of Sydney’s Financial District. Enclosed by three prominent CBD streets: Elizabeth, Phillip and Hunter, the 34-story building boasts a unique architectural design; featuring a red cube-shaped skeletal brace which flows vertically through the building’s periphery.

Hunter Douglas Commercial Specifier, Turner Bros was selected to take on this enormous project. The complexities of solar control and operation on this project demanded multi-functional window coverings which would help maximise the natural light entering the building’s dimensional light-filled workspaces. Since 8 Chifley had already achieved a 6 Star Green Star Office Design Rating and was also committed to achieving a 5 Star NABERS Energy Rating, it was imperative that building utilised sustainable window coverings.

Hunter Douglas Commercial’s new Screen Nature Fabric for Roller Blinds was specified to fit with 8 Chifley’s environmental aspirations. The fabric has been proven to be effective in reducing the level of heat and light transmitted into a building, by filtering up to 94% of light rays, ultimately reducing energy costs. Engineered in Europe, it is 100% fibreglass, non-combustible, and PVC free with a halogen free coating; making it highly suitable, and a contributing factor to the green building accreditation.

Unlike PVC and polyester fibre fabrics, the Screen Nature Fabric has excellent fire resistant properties and very low smoke emissions with a fire rating in accordance with French Standards M1 and M0 and Australian Standards, which means a reduced risk of smoke inhalation or damage. It has been GREENGUARD® certified; Sanitized® treated and meets the certification requirements set by Oeko-Tex for the exclusion of harmful substances.

The Chifley Square building was designed by Sir Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the architect behind contemporary architectural masterpieces such as the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Lloyd’s of London and even the Millennium Dome – in collaboration with Australia’s Ed Lippmann. The 34 storey building resembles a giant glass obelisk standing guard over the steel cut-out statue of Ben Chifley; for which the precinct bears his name; a Labour leader who became the 16th Prime Minister of Australia from 1945 until 1949. The building was completed ahead of schedule in August 2013, with 42% of its office floor space leased.
